STATIC-X Dismiss RAMONES Snub, Continue Work On New CD
January 23, 2003STATIC-X's cover of the RAMONES classic "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment", originally recorded for inclusion on the upcoming "We're A Happy Family"RAMONES tribute CD (due on Feb. 11 via DV8/Collumbia Records),will eventually see the light of day despite its having been removed from the final track listing of the much-anticipated collection.
The song, which was tracked in early 2002 at Glenwood Place Studios in Burbank, California, was omitted from the album when it became apparent that "there were just too many tracks [available to choose from]," according to an official statement from the band. "A lot of huge people decided to contribute (BONO, EDDIE VEDDER, KISS, etc.),and there just wasn't room for everything. We will be using the song on an upcoming release/b-side/soundtrack."
Back in March of last year, STATIC-X guitarist Tripp Eisen had the following to say about how the band came to be involved with the ROB ZOMBIE-produced CD:
"At first, Johnny Ramone, who has final approval on a lot of things, was like, 'I've never even heard of STATIC-X.' I sent him an email about how much of a fan I was of THE RAMONES growing up and it was something really special. I knew he was a Rush Limbaugh fan, too, I saw him on the ['The Rush Limbaugh Show'] in the audience. I mentioned that and [it] must have clicked something with him and he was like, 'Alright. You're on it!'
"[Our version of 'Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment' is] a power metal version of a RAMONES song. RAMONES meets METALLICA, for lack of a better term — just pumped-up, grinding guitars. It's totally us. The whole vibe just sounds great."
STATIC-X are currently in pre-production for the follow-up to 2001's "Machine", tentatively due in late summer through Warner Bros. Records.
